While updating some older modules, I discovered that hundreds of spam comments have been made since I revamped this page. Fortunately, all of them went into the approval queue, so none of it was visible.

But, I also found one real comment (sorry to the poster that this comment never got visible until now), so I decided to install a CAPTCHA module (Mollom) to prevent spam from passing thru but allowing real comments to be visible. I also set up an email rule so I get notified of every new submitted comment that made it thru the CAPTCHA check.
